Mowlana Hazar Imam's 71st Birthday - December 13, 2007
Happy Birthday Mowlana Hazar Imam!
Salgirah Mubarak! Khushiali Mubarak Everyone! Golden Jubilee Birthday!
"And peace on him on the day he was born, and on the day he dies, and on the day he is raised to life" Holy Quran 19:15"And I follow the religion of my fathers, Ibrahim (Abraham) and Ishaq (Isaac) and Yaqoub (Jacob); it beseems us not that we should associate aught with Allah; this is by Allah's grace upon us and on mankind, but most people do not give thanks." [12.38]
"He it is Who sent His Apostle with guidance and the religion of truth, that He might cause it to prevail over all religions." [9.33]
"Birthdays of the Ahl-e-Bayt (the Prophet's family) and the Imams and certain important dates of the year were celebrated. Imam took part in the celebrations of the festivals. Local festivals of secular origin, like the "Flooding of the Nile" and "Navroz" (beginning of spring) were also encouraged by the Imam. Imam al-Muiz would hold huge receptions at his palace; processions were taken through the town and the whole town was illuminated."
The above (taken from the History of the Imams page) is a description of the traditional celebration of the birthday of the Imam of the time (Hazar Imam) the progeny of Prophet Muhammad (sas). We are all very happy at the occasion of the birthday of Mowlana Karim Al-Husaini Hazar Imam (as), the 49th descendant, on December 13, 1999. The world is celebrating the birthday of this Noble Spirit, Ameen.
Over this past half century, the pace of change on our planet has been bewildering. And that pace is accelerating. I was struck last month by the fact that the leadership of France, the U.K. and Germany had changed significantly in just a few months and similar changes are coming in the United States.
As the pace of history accelerates, developments that occurred over fifty years in my lifetime will happen in fifteen or even five years for your generation. This is why I believe that the most important thing you could have mastered in the course of your studies - as you were becoming “Masters” of Public Affairs - was not any specific body of knowledge, but rather the ability to go on learning.
The above is what Mowlana Hazar Imam said just recently. He is making tremendous progress in bringing about peace on earth by dialog and reconciliation rather than propounding a clash or sorts. See for yourself the recent coverage on his activities and we all wish him all the success evermore, Amen. We also thank him for being our spiritual and secular guide and has helped us improve our lot manifold in the last 50 years and before him, his grandfather, Aga Khan III. The community is rejoicing everywhere for being fortunate enough to be born in this wonderful sect and to be guided by this Prince of Peace, Alhamdulillah!

Statement by the Hon. Jason Kenney,
Secretary of State (Multiculturalism and Canadian Identity)
On the Birthday of His Highness Prince Karim Aga KhanI join with people around the world in wishing His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan a happy birthday, and the Ismaili community in Canada a hearty Salgirah Mubarak and Khushiali Mubarak .
Thanks to the Aga Khan’s leadership, important institutions focused on social, economic, and cultural activities have been established in countries around the world. In Afghanistan, where Canadian soldiers are making enormous sacrifices to secure the peace and safeguard the Afghan people, the Aga Khan Foundation is helping to rebuild institutions and infrastructure for the benefit of the country. The work of these organizations in many ways reflects values that Canadians hold dear: freedom, democracy, human rights, and the rule of law.
On November 5, 2007, I had the pleasure of meeting with His Highness the Aga Khan to discuss issues related to pluralism. Canada has been selected as the site for the Global Centre for Pluralism, and I am pleased that the Government of Canada is supporting this institution, which will serve as a cornerstone of good governance, the rule of law, and human development in the years ahead.
As Secretary of State (Multiculturalism and Canadian Identity) and on behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper, I commend His Highness the Aga Khan for his humanitarian efforts, and I wish him a long and healthy life.

13 December 2005
Birthday of His Highness
Today is the birthday
Not ours, someone else's
But celebrating more festively than our own
Today's birthday
Is an event
For millions of people
Beyond the boundaries of
Countries and continents
Our birthday, like that of many others'
Is simply another party
For us, our families, our friends,
And may be some of our neighbours
Not beyond that
As, we live confined for our own selves
At the best, we live for our families
Not beyond that
There are a few
Who cross the limits of self and family
And live for
Their village, their community, their country
And beyond
Those few also
Stop somewhere
Requiring even farther vision
Those few having vision also
Stop somewhere
Requiring even stronger capacity
Those few having capacity also
Stop somewhere
Requiring even firmer commitment
Those few having commitment also
Stop somewhere
Requiring even deeper passion
Those few having all
Vision, capacity, commitment and passion also
Experience some limitation
Requiring divine blessing, that is
Transcended upon only the rarest chosen
Today is the birthday of
One such rarest embodiment
His Highness
The Aga Khan IV
Karim Al Hussaini Shah
The 49th hereditary Imam of
Shi'a Imami Ismaili Muslims
His 'highness' raises
Not from his wealth
But from his depth
Depth of his heart
For the millions of underprivileged
In developing nations
Depth of his thoughts
For oneness of human civil society
Yet encompassing pluralistic faiths and cultures
Depth of his belief
In health and education
As the foundation stones
Towards architecting
Good human beings and
Self-helping humane communities
We see
- Him
As a personification of compassion
- His preaching
As an ignition of inspiration
- His life
As a journey dedicated for a purpose
On this birthday of Mowlana Hazar Imam
We greet, wish and pray
For his long, happy and accomplishing life
Sowing many a seed
Planting many a tree
Touching many a heart
Kindling many a hope
Enlightening many a soul
.
And beyond!
