This Persian calligraphy invokes prayers that are dedicated to our Prophet Muhammed and Hazrat Ali. I think it reads: "O Allah Give your blessings to our Prophet Muhammed and his great disciple Ali. (The Salwaat) Purify our hearts and souls, bless us all, and group us with your virtuous children"

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE IN LIFE? Those who are too busy making a name for themselves to worry about why we are here, could get a shock on attaining their sought-after goal. With newfound prestige, life can suddenly get disoriented and wearisome if it lacks a NOBLE PURPOSE.It is a belief that life has meaning. We are here to add what we can no life, not to get what we can from it.Love God and second love your neighbor as yourself. This is inter-depenedence with nature and humans.Bonding our relationship with people and with God- will keep our lives meaningful.Let us leave the world a better place than we haVE FOUND IT.

Ya ali Madad and Salaam: I read my brother Aziz's comments made on Feb. 10. This earth, universe, etc. belongs to Allah. We cannot ask Him any questions as to why are all these disasters, etc. happening? We should ask ourselves questions, are we obeying His Rules? He has sent us to this earth to live in harmony and peace, respect each an every creations including the environment, etc., and not to have wars, bloodshed, hatred, irrespect, pollution, abuse, etc. Our Beloved Prophets and Pirs had predicted many years ago that all these natural disasters are going to come. May Allah Shower His Blessings and bring Peace and Barakat on the mankind. Khudahafiz

THE SKY IS FALLING-WELL! MAY BE NOT. Is it coming? Will it hit us? How hard? Waiting for the recession is a lot like waiting for a hurricane or a blizzard. It may be sunny where you sit but experts on TV swear the storm is coming. They look very serious. They make you worry. In fact they make you worry that maybe you should have started worrrying earlier. It is time to put plywood over the windows? Start hoading milk and bread and toilet paper? Sell stocks? Start saving for a rainy day? After nine years of unprecedented economic boom, unemployment is up, the stock market is down and the media have responded to the bad news by going into an ecstatic frenzy of recession-mongering.TO FACE THESE BAD TIMES BEAUTY LIES NOT IN LIVING MISERLY BUT WISELY.

MUFTI IMTIAZ FINDS THE CAUSE OF EARTH QUAKE: (Associated Press reports).Muslims residents of Ahmadbad and Surat have started tossing out hundreds of television sets-400 in Surat alone- on behest of Mufti Imtiaz that that the television was the cause of the earthquake! With drought in Afghanistan and people on stravation level and United Nations rushing food aid-I am sure have no television.=Let's pray Mawla's divine guidance.

THE MAN MADE DISASTERS: Besides natural disasters, we have many man-mde disaster which are more deadly. In World War I, nearly 20 million people were killed and many more died when :Influenza" struck. In the Second World War more than 50 million people were killed and the war nearly wiped out our civilization. With God's gift of oue intelligence, we have overcome many such disasters.Look at deadly diseases, like "infdluenza","Plague"- which nearly wiped out half-the existing world in middle ages. And host of others. What we need is to look the events logically and take the blame ourselves failing to live to God's plans and avoid being selfish, greedy and self-centredness. We need to share bounties of this world with all mankind.

GOD'S PLACE IN NATURAL DISASTER: When the first humans(Adam and Eve) disobeyed God's command and His plainly stated instructions, they invited disaster.Scriptures tell us:God warned that you will positively die.The fitrst couple's disobediance meant rejecting God's guidance and care. No longer did they want God to be ruler over them and their home, planet earth. By forfeiting God's oversight, they also lost protection from disasters. What all this mean to us?It means that "time and unforeseen occurance" befall all of us. It means that we cannot know what will occur that might make us victims of the unexpected. As fish caught in a net or birds taken in a trap,so, too,"the sons of men themselves are being ensnared at a calamitous time," as, for example,"when death falls upon us suddenly." But humans are endowed with reasoning power and can mitigate many such calamities.

WHAT MAKES US DISCONTENTED: What makes us discontented with our condition is the absurdly exaggerated idea of the happiness of others.Nothing great was achieved without enthusism.

Aziz, stop using this space to air your whining. Your concept of God is an insult to the creator. If you are angry, so are millions of other beings, except they are patience. You are free to renounce your faith. Only your faith can bring you peace. So the choice is yours, and stop behaving like a brat.

DEAR NINA AND HABIBA (and many others who might comment later) THANKS FOR YOUR IDEAS, SUGGESTIONS AND ENCOURAGING WORDS. I HOPE THAT SOMEDAY I WILL FIND PEACE WITH GOD BUT AT THE MOMENT MY MIND AND SOUL IS IN EXTREME ANGUISH AND CONFUSION AS TO THE DRAMA AND GAME WHICH IS PLAYED ALMSOT EVERYDAY WITH US HUMANS!!!!!!!!! WE JUST SEEM TO BE LIKE PUPPETS AND TRASH. I JUST DONT UNDERSTAND WHAT IS GOD'S PROBLEM, WHY DOESNT THE HELL HE JUST COMES IN FRONT OF US "JUST ONCE" AND EXPLAIN TO US ALL THIS BULLSHIT! AFTERALL WHAT DOES THIS ALL NATURAL DISASTERS AND DESTRUCTIONS MEAN????????????? DOES THIS MEAN THAT HE IS LOSING CONTROL OVER HIS OWN CREATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BUT I KNOW GOD WILL NOT ANSWER AS HE IS NOT OBLIGED TO AND HAS CHOSEN TO REMAIN HIDDEN AND MYSTERIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aziz, thousands of people survived the earthquake that were not in concrete buildings which were man-made and designed by so called engineers. God's law applies here. If one takes a gun and shoots, it will kill. You can't shoot it and expect God's mercy to intervene; the laws of God are preordained and free will is man's choice. Allah says in the Quran, that He does not change anyone's situation unless they change themselves. I hope your questioning brings you peace and I pray for the Mushkil Asaan of all involved in this tragedy. Ameen.

THE STATEMENT BELOW BY H.E.MOHAMED "GOD IS LOVE" NOW SEEMS LIKE A FARCE AND A JOKE NOW AFTER SEEING SO MANY PEOPLE BECOME HOMELESS AND MISERABLE AFTER THE MOST DEVASTATING EARTHQUAKE IN INDIA. NEVER IN MY LIFE HAS MY FAITH BEEN SHATTERED IN JOLTED IN THE MOST CONFUSING AND TORTUROUS WAY!!! SOMETIMES IT'S HARD TO UNDERSTAND GOD'S LOGIC. WE ARE TAUGHT FROM THE DAY WE ARE BORN THAT "ALLAH IS THE MOST BENEFICIENT AND MOST MERCIFUL" BUT AFTER SEEING SO MUCH DESTRUCTION, THESE WORDS JUST BOGGLES THE MIND. I WISH I HAD THE EMAIL ADDRESS OF GOD SO I CAN ASK HIM ALL KINDS OF PERPLEXING QUESTIONS WHICH THE HUMANITY HAS TO FACE ALMOST EVERY DAY OF OUR LIVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GOD IS LOVE:LOVE THY NEIGHBOR AS THYSELF:Share their feelings, their joys, even their tears.Love is our greatest need. Babies die without it. The elderly wasre away for lack of it. Illness flourishes in its absence. Books have been written about it. Group assemble to touch and hug in serach of it. Movies and plays distort and degrade it. A corrupt and violent world rejects it as impractical the only kind of love that could save it.Yet that saving love is our greatest need.

I am a London Ismaili living in New York with my two children. They attend Tal'im education classes at Westport, CT Jamatkhana. I am learning with them and find this web-site and the Ismaili Institute web-site a wonderful tool. My 12 year-old daughter, Azzara, and I have found this first foray into the Women's Page fascinating. It has helped to answer some of our questions about women under Sharia law, and to see that the Ismaili interpretation matches our own view. It is also helping us to be sensitive to other Islamic religions and their views. It has inspired us to search the page and links...and has opened our eyes to our own culture and origins. Thank you, you are doing an invaluable service for those of us who have involved international academic lives. Its ironic that advanced electronic technology should be the method to reveal ancient spiritual knowledge. We'll keep watching your space/s :-) Sheila, Azzara (12) and Max Karim (9 1/2)

HISTORICAL CUTCH: Cutch was inveded about 13th century by Muslims of Summa tribe, under whose sway it continued tranquil for many years. The succession continued in the same line from Prince Khengayi until 1697, when Pragji murdered his elder brother and usurped the soverignty. This line of princes continued till 1760 without any remarkable event, when in the riegn of Rao Ghodji, the country was inveded four times by the Sindis. Fateh Mohamed, a native of Sind. continued to rule the country until his death in 1813. It was in the reign of Fateh Mohamed that communication was first made with the British Government. During the contest of sovereignty between usurper and the legal heir, th eleader of royal party, Hansraj, the governor of Mandvi, sought the aid of British. The administration of affairs was nominally in ther hands of Husain Miyan and his brother Ibrahim Miyan. After 1813 British were the virtual ruler. According to Jadeja Rajput tradition, when they entered Cutch in 900 from Sind, they were Muslims but afterwards adopted the custom and religion of Hindus. They still retain many Muslim customs. The palace at Mandvi and a tomb of one of theirt princes at Bhuj are fair specimens of their artchetural skill. The language is Kachi, a non-Hindu Indo-Aryan tongue transitional between Sindi and Gujrati.
